Fiscal, Legal and Social Assistance

In Wallonia, more than elsewhere, businesses have the reputation of offering a high return on investment in the medium range. A complete system of financial incentives has been implemented to make it easier to set up a business in Wallonia. These incentives:

  • Contribute up to 20% to the cost of setting up a business
  • Lower tax and social cost
  • Promote hiring and staff training
  • Make it easier to pay for consulting
  • Help with export plans
  • Promote the use of renewable energy and environment initiative

In early 2006, the Wallonia government decided to define economic redevelopment areas, or tax incentive zones, with special tax incentives for existing economic activities in those areas and any activities such measures may attract. The investment grant can be increased by 25% or even 40% for these areas.

Recent steps taken by the Wallonia Government aimed at reducing any anti-economic taxation to a minimum make Wallonia the least taxed region in Europe and of Belgium:

  • Suppression of tax on power
  • Exemption of real estate tax for a maximum of 5 years for the setting-up of a    company
  • Exemption of real estate tax for 7 years on material and equipment for the    setting-up of a SME
