Myth: Synthetic drugs like Ecstasy are pure.

Many people who take illicit drugs have no idea what they are actually taking and can end up using very toxic and harmful substances.

Ecstasy is the popular name for the drug MDMA (3, 4 methylenedioxy
methamphetamine). One study found that over one third of all drugs sold as ecstasy actually had no MDMA. Only 15% of what was sold as ecstasy had at least 75% MDMA. What you think is ecstasy may be cough suppressants, caffeine, decongestants, or fatal drugs like paramethoxyamphetamine (PMA). PMA is one of the most dangerous and toxic hallucinogens known, but it is cheaper and safer to make than MDMA. Let's face it--illicit drugs aren't approved by the FDA.

Common MYTHS that Contribute to Stigma

Stigma surrounding alcohol and drug use, as well as treatment, can discourage people who need help from seeking or accepting it. Much of the stigma is brought about by misunderstanding and myths. Here are some of the misconceptions that tend to make the problem worse:
